How to understand food labels?

The product label also lists the ingredients. The ingredients are listed in descending order of their quantity in the product, i.e. the ingredients listed first are the most in the product. If sugar, salt or vegetable fat are listed as the first ingredients, the product is not healthy and should be returned to the store shelf.

If sugar, salt or vegetable fat are listed as the first ingredients, the product is not healthy and should be returned to the store shelf. It is recommended to choose more products for your daily diet with as short and simple an ingredient list as possible. The list of ingredients also indicates food additives, if the product contains them. Food additives are substances that are not usually consumed in food on their own, but are added to food for technological reasons to affect its properties. They may be designated by the letter ā€œEā€ (e.g. E 330) or by their full name (e.g. citric acid). In addition, the purpose for which the food additive is added to the product is also indicated, for example, acidity regulator, flavour enhancer, colouring agent, etc.
